Being An American
There are 6 unique characterizations that
 historically identify and define “Americans”

1) Americans are self-reliant, self-
     sufficient, pursue self-delineation, and recognize
and respect the responsibilities and obligations
of self-determination. They do not have to be told
what to do, how to do it, or when to do the
     "right" thing.
2) Americans “speak Truth to Power”
as our Founding Fathers did to England's King
George in the Declaration of Independence.
3) Americans respect the 11th
     Commandment that our Founding Fathers
added to the original Ten Commandments.
#11 = Thou shalt not "tell a lie" to gain an advantage,
to claim credit or to avoid responsibility (except in
"contested" political campaigns). The West's, "My
word is my bond" came from the 11th Commandment.

4)  Americans endorse the 10 criteria of
America’s Promise that support and protect the
American Dream. America's Promise (PDF; 1 page)
 5) Americans possess most of the 13 inherent
American character traits that define, identify
and rank American citizens or resident immigrants as
"Americans". Character Traits (PDF; 1 page)

  6) Americans visibly recognize and
        respect the American Dream —
Belief in available and affordable access to the
American Dream — "Life, Liberty and the pursuit
of Happiness". Americans recognize the difference
        between "Liberty" and "Freedom".

Behaving as an American

The most noticeable character traits
among Americans are —
1) They ask questions.
2) They question authority.
3) They challenge tradition.
4) They are not afraid to fail.
5) They bow to no one.
6) They don't bully.
7) They try to walk a mile in the other person's
shoes before they rush to judgment.

• Does your State and local government offer residents the option or opportunity to ask questions, question authority, and challenge tradition? Do they listen?
• Are your elected officials, public service providers,
community volunteer groups, business and/or legal
community staffed by "Americans"?

20 Questions you can use to evaluate your local
 leadership as “Being Americans”

  An American —
  1) Respects the Ten Commandments as the basic

       America.
